My Travel Story

by: SAMEH ABDALHADI Start Date: Nov 12, 2021 - End Date: Mar 11, 2022
A brief background about me:

My name is Sameh Abdalhadi, 34y; a father of 3 (4 y, 3 y, 1 year and a half), I live in Gaza, Palestine; I earned a Bachelor's degree in 2011 with a GPA of 79.79%; I am unemployed, meaning I do not have a permanent employment contract; I live in a rental flat. I couldn’t complete my higher education due to a financial shortage. You can say I am really hopeless and depressed.
This year, I have been granted the opportunity to study abroad in the Netherlands. I’ve received the college acceptance letter from the University of Twente to pursue a Master’s degree in Educational Science and Technology, but first I have to follow a pre-masters in Psychology. You could not imagine how thrilled I am.
During this one-year, English-taught Master’s, I am constantly challenged to think innovative, whether I am designing for educational purposes or motivating learning in the workplace. I will also learn to design and evaluate learning scenarios in schools and educational institutions.
This great opportunity has revived hope in me. It has been my dream to engage in such opportunity and leave my home country to learn more about myself; hone my skills; expand my knowledge and access to education; and more importantly find a better and brighter future for my little children, where they can have a decent life and feel safe and secure. Because I believe that my children have had enough; they experienced the 2020 war on Gaza (which lasted 11 days). They deserve, like all other children, to have normal and common child experiences, like practicing an instrument or playing games with friends.
Actually, I am now in the last step into getting the visa, which is paying the tuition fees and providing the IND (Dutch Immigration Service) a bank statement that confirms I have a sufficient amount of money. This very step has almost got my hope killed again.
Frankly speaking, No one is able to support me financially; my mother is a widow and receives money from the government (something like Supplemental Security Income), and my father is dead. And since I live in Gaza City, the city that the United Nations predicted to be “uninhabitable” by 2020, such an amount of money is way too impossible to be raised locally.
To be able to take my wife and my three children with me on my journey to the Netherlands, and according to the IND (Dutch Immigration Service), I should do the following (please note that I don’t request the whole amount of money shown below):
  1. pay the pre-masters tuition fee (540€).
  2. pay the tuition fee (12750 €) for one year.
  3. provide a bank statement to confirm I have a sufficient amount of money that covers the basics and fixed expenses during our stay in the Netherlands (approx 3123€ per month. For one year= 37476€.
  4. pay for visa application (= 192€ for those over 18, and 64€  for those under 18). 5 applications = 576€) + travel expenses (approx1500€) + airline tickets (approx1500€) + suitable accommodation (approx. 800€ per month). (For one year=approx 9,600€)
  • The total amount of money needed= 63,942€
This might be a huge amount of money, and to be honest, crowdfunding 25% or lesser (approx 8300€) of the total amount is very satisfying. As I intend to start looking for a job as soon as I arrive in the Netherlands, so will my wife. So any donation is greatly appreciated.

Please help me pursue the MA degree in the Netherlands and help my family have a bright and promising future.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sending this message with love, peace, and gratitude,
Sameh Abdalhadi
