Emma saves the Turtles!
My Travel Story
I'm finally doing it, I'm off to contribute to turtle conservation in Costa Rica!
For years I've had a fondness for turtles, and I've now got the opportunity to go and work with them in their natural habitat.
When volunteering on the Sea Turtle Conservation project in Costa Rica, I'll be working alongside a local biologist to assist with sea turtle studies, focusing on marine-conservation volunteer activities and supporting sustainable egg protection programs. There are four sea turtle species in Costa Rica - Leatherbacks, Greens, Olive Ridley and Hawksbill. Protecting these spectacular species is at the heart of the volunteer programme I'll be on.
I'll be working a variety of day and night shifts, that'll include beach patrols, building hatcheries to protect eggs from predators, beach cleaning, counting and tagging sea turtles, locating nesting females, collecting eggs and replanting mangroves.
English is not widely spoken so I will be brushing up on my Spanish in the coming months in hopes I'll be able to babble my way through the time there.
Any donations towards my trip will be extremely appreciated and I'll be eternally grateful! Thanks for reading.
