My Travel Story

by: Nina Pedrero Start Date: Feb 4, 2025 - End Date: May 14, 2025
Since I was a child, I’ve felt a deep connection to the ocean, fascinated by its mysteries and the incredible creatures that call it home—especially sharks. Over the years, I’ve nurtured this passion by earning my scuba diving certifications, which has only deepened my appreciation for marine ecosystems. Now, as an environmental engineering student, I want to take my commitment even further by volunteering in Madagascar, a biodiversity hotspot where many unique species exist and need protection.

This trip is more than just an opportunity to explore—it's a chance to make a real impact. I will be actively participating in conservation efforts, including reef surveying, clean-up dives, monitoring coral health, and beach clean-ups. I’ll also be working on building artificial reefs, maintaining the coral nursery, and educating the local community about environmental issues. By keeping the ocean clean and supporting reef regeneration, we can ensure a healthier future for both marine life and the people who depend on it.

The ocean has always given me a sense of peace and purpose, and I truly believe that my life’s mission is tied to its conservation. This experience will not only shape my future career but will also allow me to give back to a place that inspires me every day.
