My Travel Story

by: Kennedy Pfeffer Start Date: Mar 7, 2018 - End Date: Jun 14, 2018
It's always been my dream to travel the world and learn other people's cultures, unfortunatley, I've been deprived of this opportunity due to various reasons. I always found myself thriving on these small tasks and craving for more, this led me to bigger opportunities. I then began to walk around my neighborhood with a trash bag and some gloves, picking up waste around the community.  Around the age of 8, I had driven enthusiasm towards helping my community. I soon began adding extra responsibilities. By the age of 12, I was spending my entire summer volunteering for my neighbors, helping them with things they no longer could accomplish. As I grew older, the challenges got harder, and the reward got greater. The reward was something I always looked forward to, the smile on my neighbors face, the happyiess in their voice, and the thanks they gave. As I continued to age, I had the opportunity to travel with my parish on a mission trip. I remember my very first year, I was the youngest volunteer (after realizing I joined a year earlier than most). It was a trip from Wisconsin (my home state) down to North Carolina. I gained many new things that trip. I gained a new perspective on the southern culture, I learned new things, as well as, the most rewarding, I helped people in need. After this volunteer trip, my group was asked their favorite part, some people said the place we stayed, the freedom we lived, or the food we ate. My favorite part was accomplishing a task for someone who truely needed it. It reminded me of who I was and what I love. I love helping people, because of the same reaction they gave as my neighbors did from many years ago. I now have experienced four different trips from all over the country and would love to spread my love for volunteering. As being a junior in Highschool, I struggled with what I want to do when I'm older. I take the hardest courses available, and push myself to the limit. I'm a very hard worker and would love to spread my passion for volunteering internationally. If I could, I would make my career volunteering internationally. Why? Because, because I'm learning new cultures, I'm traveling the world, I'm helping those in need, and I'm experiencing all that the world has to offer. With your donation, I'll begin my journey, document it and maybe change just one life that could lead to a thousand. Taking up this opppertunity will not only be a  life changing  experience for myself, but a life starter for the many people I just might encounter.
