Dear Friends and Family,

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been accepted into an amazing volunteer opportunity with International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ), where I will be helping to improve dental care in underserved communities in Costa Rica. This program speaks to my heart because I’ve personally struggled with malocclusion and untreated cavities, which caused me pain and difficulty while eating. As a child, I had limited access to proper dental care, which led to prolonged discomfort and self-consciousness about my smile. I know firsthand how dental issues can affect both physical health and confidence. Now, I want to give back by helping others receive the care and education they need to prevent similar struggles.

Why Costa Rica?

Costa Rica has one of the most developed healthcare systems in Latin America, but there are still significant disparities in dental care, especially in rural and low-income communities. Many people are unable to access the care they need, and I’m excited to contribute in a meaningful way. Through this program, I will be shadowing dental professionals, assisting with clinical tasks, and helping educate community members about oral hygiene.

For me, this cause is personal. Having experienced dental issues myself, I know the difference quality care can make. I want to ensure others in need don’t have to struggle without the treatment they deserve. This is an opportunity to not only volunteer but to make a real impact on people’s lives.

What I’ll Be Doing:

During my time in Costa Rica, I will be:

Shadowing and assisting dentists and dental hygienists
Helping to prepare treatment materials and instruments
Educating community members about dental hygiene practices
Assisting with administrative tasks in the clinics
If qualified, supporting in hands-on clinical work like teeth cleaning and extractions
This program will provide me with hands-on experience and an opportunity to practice my Spanish while immersing myself in Costa Rican culture.

How You Can Help:

To make this experience possible, I need to raise $3,500. This will cover:

Program fees, which include accommodation, meals, and in-country support
Flights and travel insurance
Vaccinations and visa costs
Here’s how you can help:

Donate: Any amount you can contribute will go directly toward making this trip a reality.
Spread the Word: Share this campaign with others who may want to support this cause.
Why Your Support Matters:

Your donation will not only make this life-changing experience possible for me but will also contribute to improving access to dental care for those who need it most. I am committed to providing regular updates and sharing the impact your generosity will have in these communities.

This journey will allow me to give back while gaining valuable experience and learning in a different cultural context. I’m incredibly grateful for any support you can offer—thank you for helping me make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.

With gratitude,
Amara Khalid
