My Travel Story

Hey, so glad you're here and interested to find out more. This summer I am spending just over a month volunteering with kids and adults in Sri Lanka, and I would really love and appreciate if you could support me in this journey.

Why am I doing this?

I want to serve others and make a difference in the world, even if it means putting a smile on someone's face. I strongly believe that when you take the focus from yourself and instead focus on others' needs, you become a much better and happier person...and you get to make someone else happy too!

My Dream

To help others who cannot always help themselves. To provide them with the tools they need to eventually gain strength and confidence. One day, I want to see lives being transformed...and there's nothing I would love more than being a part of that.

As part of the SLV Global Mental Health Placement, I will be helping people in Sri Lanka in two ways:

1. Mental health issues are seen as a bit of a taboo in Sri Lanka, and as a result people who suffer from them are treated very poorly. This is also due to the extreme shortage of trained psychologists and psychiatrists there.

What I will be doing to help change this is go into a mental health institution and brighten up the patients' day for 5 weeks! This may involve assisting them with their daily needs, exercising with them, making drawings for them, and trying (but probably failing) to speak Sri Lankan to them.

My vision is to change the way staff there treat their patients by setting an example of how easy it can be to make someone feel like they matter. It only takes a simple act of kindness to show someone they are loved and accepted... and one of the best bits is that in doing so, the feeling is 100% reciprocated!

2. English is one of the top spoken languages in the world. Knowing how to read, write and speak English can open up lots of doors to people, especially those born in less privileged areas of the world. That's why I will also be volunteering with kids in schools as part of a second project, teaching them English in fun and creative ways. The teaching will largely involve things like doing funny ice-breakers, singing, and telling them encouraging stories of brave characters. After all, the best way to learn is to enjoy what you're learning, right?

I am extremely excited for all the happiness, love and kindness I will get to share during my time there!
You can join in this awesomeness by donating or simply telling your friends and family about this :).

Thank you in advance for your kind support and generosity, I will be forever grateful.
