My Travel Story

Hello! My name is Aimee Cantu and I am a first-generation student at Arizona State University. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Behavior Analysis and I aspire to be an elementary school teacher. I will be attending a week-long spring study abroad trip to Amsterdam and Enschede, Netherlands to explore the Dutch educational system with teamwork based learning and discover various student-based teaching models to implement into future classrooms. By being able to experience a new ideology towards education and academics for young students, I will be able to explore diverse and innovative teaching approaches and open my mind to how vast education is in different parts of the world.

The reason why I chose to embark on this study-abroad trip was because I have always had a passion for teaching and learning alike. I love working with children and I continue to follow a path to where I can ensure I am not just an educator, but a role-model. I want to gain knowledge alongside my peers of how diverse the educational world is and incorporate it into my studies back at home and my future students. Learning about other parts of the world helps me to later create an classroom atmosphere that is welcoming to all cultures, backgrounds, families, and beliefs. 

My hope is to capture and conduct research of what it means to be a Dutch educator and student and immerse myself in a new environment and culture of the Netherlands. Being my first study-abroad trip and first trip to Europe, I am super excited to share with everyone my experience as a future educator learning globally.

¡Hola! Me llamo Aimee Cantu y soy la primera de mi familia en ir a la universidad, en la Universidad Arizona State University. Actualmente curso el segundo año de la carrera de Educación Primaria con una especialización en Análisis del Comportamiento y aspiro a ser maestra de primaria. Participaré en un viaje de estudios de una semana a Ámsterdam y Enschede, Países Bajos Netherlands (Holanda), durante las vacaciones de primavera, para explorar el sistema educativo holandés, centrado en el aprendizaje colaborativo, y descubrir diversos modelos de enseñanza centrados en el estudiante que podré implementar en mis futuras aulas. Al experimentar una nueva perspectiva sobre la educación y el aprendizaje para niños, podré explorar enfoques pedagógicos diversos e innovadores y ampliar mi visión sobre la amplitud de la educación en diferentes partes del mundo.

La razón por la que decidí emprender este viaje de estudios al extranjero fue mi gran pasión por la enseñanza y el aprendizaje. Me encanta trabajar con niños y sigo un camino que me permita ser no solo una maestra, sino también un modelo a seguir. Quiero adquirir conocimientos sobre la diversidad del mundo educativo e incorporarlos a mis estudios en mi país y a la enseñanza de mis futuros alumnos. Aprender sobre otras partes del mundo me ayuda a crear un ambiente en el aula que sea acogedor para todas las culturas, orígenes, familias y creencias.

Mi objetivo es documentar e investigar lo que significa ser un educador y un estudiante neerlandés, y sumergirme en el nuevo entorno y la cultura de Países Bajos Netherlands (Holanda). Siendo este mi primer viaje de estudios al extranjero y mi primer viaje a Europa, estoy muy emocionada de compartir con todos mi experiencia como futura educadora que aprende en un contexto global.
