My Travel Story

by: ROHDOF LACTEM YENGEH Start Date: Aug 11, 2017 - End Date: Sep 9, 2017
I am a Cameroonian (holder of masters degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Management) and a volunteer in an NGO (https://www.pci-cameroon.org/en). We are fully involved in community poverty alleviation and clean air projects in the suburbs in Cameroon. We do a lot of sensitization campaigns especially on clean air and poverty alleviation to improve the livelihood of the rural poor.
As a youth, I am also involved in organizing Climate change capacity building workshops and leadership programs to benefit the youths in and out of my community. Most of those in the suburbs practice traditional unsustainable methods of farming whereby they cut trees and burn them down in order to plant crops leaving a devastating effects on the climate and degrading the soil. I identified this knowledge gap and want to update myself on this.

My first trip is to Nigeria where I have been invited to participate as a High Level Delegate at the 2nd Annual International Trash Conference & Exhibition (ITCE) on the 5th – 6th of October, 2017 at PIND Complex, Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. At this program, I shall learn waste management strategies especially on non-biodegradable plastic wastes that is really plaguing my community.

Secondly, I have volunteered to attend the Climate Reality Leadership Corps training that shall be held October 17-19, 2017 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The program is self-funded and as a volunteer I am unable to raise money for my flight, feeding and accommodation.
I believe this climate change program shall empower me on new approaches and skills to improve my areas of operation in this domain. This knowledge will benefit the communities I shall work with, including the youths wherein I'll empower them through the workshop sessions I shall organize upon return.

With this fund I shall be able to pay for my visa, flight tickets as well as my feeding and accommodation.

I will massively appreciate your kind support by mid September 2017. This will enable me to ascertain my presence in the training program.

Your support will mean so much to me and my community; this will definitely yield alarming results with great impacts. I believe the knowledge I shall acquire shall translate into improved livelihood and help sensitize the community on the adverse effects of climate change that is plaguing the world at large.

I appreciate your kind and considerable support
