My Travel Story

by: Dex Serai Start Date: Feb 24, 2020 - End Date: May 13, 2020
My name is Dex. And I want to gather up the drama and throw it all to the garbage. Let’s get real, being abandoned is everyone’s primal fear but being gaslighted by a person you dearly cherish is also real and never acceptable. I need to move on from the damaging effects of despondency and I don’t want to be crippled again by those feelings so reminiscent of my divorce. For five years of questioning my own sanity, I finally gathered enough courage to stop the cycle of self-doubt. Being a Mom to my little daughter, I want her to grow up in a stable, nurtured environment.

For years I was so invested and didn’t want to face the truth locking in my room, I came to a mini-intervention with myself. I need to keep myself together. I need to heal, and take my sanity back. To start life again and focus on my dreams for me, my daughter and my family. Study and work abroad is my first step to restore myself. There is nothing quite like being on your own in a foreign country. A clean slate. A restart with an opportunity to discover yourself while gaining an understanding of a different culture, a new perspective on culture, language skills, a great education, and a willingness to learn and earn. Needless to say, all of these are very attractive to future employers that will make way for my dream to come true. Just like a baby learning to stand, eventually I will be running smoothly in time.

Like most people who wasn’t born with a silver spoon, you well know that tuition fees and all the other costs related to higher education are... overwhelming. Which makes it more difficult than ever to justify dedicating a semester to fulfilling whatever study abroad experience I’ve been dreaming of since I was in college.

My goal is to study and work in New Zealand. I have been searching and thinking of ways day and night how to make this happen. My parents tried to put our house to mortgage for me to go. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a title and the bank don't recognize it. My sister tried to take a loan from her office too but rejected because her years of tenure does not reach the requirement. And saving will take me forever to reach this amount. Nobody to run too..

But I must not let anything, especially money, hold me back from an opportunity to study, learn something new, work, heal and start a new life. There must be a way. I will be studying Graduate Diploma in Supply Chain Logistics. In Waikato Institute of Technology in New Zealand. This study will help me better how to recognise, analyse and solve global logistics and supply chain issues. This will also help me further my employment opportunities. While studying full time for the whole year, I am allowed to work part time for 20 hours a week which will support my living expenses for the whole year.

In New Zealand, there are lots of good Universities to choose from. I have reviewed one of the best and affordable institution located in Waikato. https://www.wintec.ac.nz/study-at-wintec. I have to say,it is quite economical to be in the suburb than the city.

During a full year studying, the immigration requires me to pay the full cost of my first year of study and need to show a proof that I have NZ $15,000 (Immigration requirement for full year). Enough money to live on while I’m in New Zealand.

Course fee (Accomodation included)       6,000 USD

Proof money to live while in NZ  (for 1 year) 9,500 USD

Flight Ticket (From Davao to Auckland)  400 USD

IELTS Fee      300 USD

                            TOTAL OF  18,900 USD

The classes will start on July 2020. The visa application process completion takes 61 days.

After finishing this program, I will be eligible to work and live in New Zealand and take my daughter with me.

I also have a big dream to inspire and help those women went through depression and abuse to start again through studying. I want to build a scholarship program 5 or 10 years from now. I have to be capable for this dream to work out.I need to be blessed before I can be a blessing.

I was thinking and searching days and nights and I come to this site to share my story with you while hoping your help. Because I am sure many people out there is willing to help courageous and forward thinking people.

I set this campaign until April 30, 2020. I really hope with this fund, I could make a good start in my life and pass it forward to those who need help in the future.

Decery “Dex” Maynopas
