My Travel Story

by: Aleen Masoud Start Date: Oct 25, 2016 - End Date: Feb 21, 2017
I am traveling all the way from Palestine to Ecuador for an internship in music education and therapy to youth and adults with disabilities and  in arts administration; as I am applying for a Master’s in Music Management. As a violin teacher working with children living under difficult circumstances from both refugee camps and villages, I have seen the importance of arts in children’s life and the positive influence it has. In my country, arts and music has not been appreciated yet. I am passionate towards changing this perception and improving a positive learning environment through arts, specifically music, in order to empower children socially and psychologically. Children are the future generation, and I believe art could provide a better future for them and the society as a whole. I have seen how music changed lives, including mine!
I consider this as a lifetime experience for a person, especially for a musician. As a teacher, this experience will allow me to be open to learn for new pieces and songs, totally new culture to me, where I can carry it back with me to my country, people and work. Also, this program will give me the chance to widen my knowledge in teaching through dealing with different persons and personalities with different abilities.
I am eager to gain new experiences and try to make a difference in the community through never losing faith in people, that everyone can do music, create it and most importantly enjoy it. Remember: Music changes lives. Give and be the music, be the change!
