My Travel Story

Hi all!
I am a nursing student at UK with a serious passion for travel! I came across a volunteer program for students to travel to Kathmandu Nepal for several weeks to help in the community hospital with their pediatric department. I am personally very interested in pediatrics for my career once I graduate, so this is the perfect opportunity for me to not only learn but also help a community in need. I hope to gain valuble knowledge about primitive medicine as well as cultivate a spirit of giving and empathy. While there I will spend 2 weeks in the city hospital helping care for the sick children and babies. After my 2 weeks there I will travel to the countryside where I will stay with a host family and work in a rural clinic. This will give me a chance to see more impoverished health care and really give assistance to families who otherwise may not get adequate health care. Ever since I was a kid I have always had this magentic draw from my heart to spend time in Nepal. The majesty of the Himalayas and the beautiful culture have always captivated me. I have found Buddhist practice to be a wonderful way to deal with anxiety in nursing school and would love to expand my knowledge and practice by seeing it at some of the most beautiful and sacred temples in Asia. One of the highlights of this project is that I will be able to take my career passion of pediatric nursing and deliver care to a place where adequate health care even in the city is severely lacking. I long to bring joy and comfort to children and families who need it most, while also bettering myself and growing from the experience. At 22 I want to have an adventure I will never forget that fuels my nursing fire into an inferno!
