My name is Owam, and I am a young man living in the vibrant country of South Africa. I have always been proud of my roots, but there is one connection I have yet to nurture – the bond with my grandparents who live in Burundi, a small, landlocked country in East Africa.

My father's side of the family resides in Burundi, and my grandparents have always been a part of my heart. As a child, I would listen to my father's stories of their love, kindness, and the wisdom they have passed down through generations. My grandparents have lived through challenging times in Burundi, and their resilience and strength have inspired me to dream big and work hard in pursuing my goals.

Growing up, we tried to stay in touch through letters and occasional phone calls, but the distance and limited communication channels made it difficult to maintain a close relationship. As I grew older, I realized how important it is for me to finally meet my grandparents and embrace the connection that has been missing from my life.

My grandparents, who have only met me when I was 12 years old, would be delighted and over-the-moon for this long-awaited reunion, as it would mean the world to them. I have always felt a deep sense of belonging and pride for my heritage, and I am eager to learn more about my family's history, culture, and traditions.

This is where I need your help. I am humbly reaching out to you, my friends, family, and the incredible people of the world, to ask for your support in making this dream a reality. I have set a goal of raising $900, which will only cover the cost of my round-trip flight from South Africa to Burundi, and back. Since, I am currently unemployed, in a country with a 59,40% youth unemployment rate, I have not set a deadline for this fundraiser. However, I would love to see them hopefully before December 2024.

In Burundi, I plan to spend two weeks with my grandparents, exploring their homeland, learning from their wisdom, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. I also hope to use this opportunity to volunteer in local community projects, giving back to the people who have inspired me in so many ways.

Your generous donation will not only change my life but also strengthen the bond between my family and demonstrate the incredible power of human connection. Together, we can create a monumental moment of love and unity for my grandparents and me.
