My Travel Story

My name is Amanda Wheeler. I am a Pre-Med Business Administration student at Tarleton State University. I am planning on traveling to Peru in May of 2017 after graduating with my bachelor’s degree.

One might ask: 
 “Why is she taking more classes after graduation?”

Almost half of the State of Texas is considered "medically underserved" in rural areas and even large cities. Most of those areas' population are mainly Spanish speakers.

My overall goal is  to become a doctor in South Texas, but I also aspire to be a BILINGUAL doctor that will be able to personally provide the greatest care possible for my future LEP (Limited English Proficiency) patients that speak Spanish. I will be able to not only communicate with them, but connect and create a doctor/patient trust that we all deserve in a comfortable environment.

I will be taking classes at Universidad Bolivariana in Lima, Peru through ECELA and will be shadowing Peruvian doctors in the process to learn Spanish clinical conversation as well.

Following my dreams has a cost that I simply cannot cover on my own.
