My Travel Story

by: Brandyn Lewis Start Date: May 6, 2024 - End Date: May 5, 2025
Giving back is my Passion: Support Brandyn as she gives back through volunteerism on her world tour.

I have chosen to create a fulfilling yet modest life where I can not only raise my daughter with support from my family but also donate some of my time and energy for free through volunteerism to help those with a greater need. I am not sure if many of you know, but in 2010 I did a mission trip in Haiti and was able to provide aid to those will limited access to medical support after a devastating earthquake. In that same year I also went to Honduras to help at a bible camp. Since then I have been volunteering locally at food shelves, churches and sports programs for kids. Caring for others is truly my hobby and part of the legacy I want to leave behind.

After my daughter graduates in May of 2024 and moves away to pursue her dreams I am going to embark on a new chapter of my life where I will be traveling full-time and participating in be seven volunteer projects. I will begin my project of volunteerism and having meaningful experiences on August 30th, 2024.

I will be working with the international volunteer HQ organization which has helped me identify volunteer sites all across the world. I am reaching out to my friends, family, supporters, and colleagues because to make these projects of volunteerism possible, I need some financial assistance. I want you all to know that I have spent the last year 4 years saving up for this adventure, but there is a cost to working with the international volunteer HQ organization that I need support in covering.

I need to raise $6,000, which goes directly to the international volunteer HQ organization and includes a donation to each of the organizations that I will be working for, it ill help to pay for my accommodations while volunteering and help the sustainability of the local program.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my request for a donation no matter how small to help close this financial gap and ensure that I can pursue my dream of giving back to multiple distressed communities across the world.

In Argentina I will be participating in a variety of activities that benefit low-income communities in food outreach, organizing recreational activities, working with community elders and education. This helps increase food security, social inclusion, access to education and overall quality of life for the local community.

In Belize I will be helping to preserve a fragile reef ecosystem by diving and collecting data on spectacular marine life as well as have the opportunity to help with the efforts to eradicate the invasive Lionfish, conserve and preserve the stunning marine environment.

In Brazil I will get behind the scenes to help organize and decorate at one of the world’s biggest parties. Carnival takes place on the streets of Rio once a year and Samba schools competing in it have a full year of intense work to prepare the many costumes, floats, music and dances for the celebration.

In Colombia I will be Youth & Childcare volunteer, I'll help provide a safe space for these children and young people to learn and grow. I'll help guide them, support them, and care for them, in order to protect their rights and wellbeing.

In Guatemala I will be joining an indigenous Kaqchikel family in rural Guatemala and assist them with business enterprises, domestic tasks and community responsibilities that help them maintain their authentic way of life. I will live with the family, work with them in the fields and learn to cook traditional Mayan food while getting a rich and rewarding cultural experience and making a meaningful contribution to the community.

In Ecuador I will be volunteering at local shelters for vulnerable people in Ecuador’s capital city. These shelters provide food, housing, education, safety and other basic necessities to people who go there for help. I'll gain experience in supporting disadvantaged communities while helping the shelter deliver a wrap-around service to those in need.

In Trinidad and Tobago I will be working along side teacher teaching English and providing classroom support which will lightening the load for local teachers and making sure students are well-supported and encouraged in their education.
