My Travel Story

by: jade johnston Start Date: Mar 27, 2024 - End Date: Sep 26, 2024
I am thrilled to share that I will be travelling to Tanzania, Africa this October for a volunteer mission through IVHQ. I will spend one week teaching and two weeks providing childcare to children in need. Helping others has always been a guiding principle in my life. This mission is especially meaningful to me because it allows me to make a positive impact on the lives of children in low-income areas of Arusha, Tanzania. These children are incredibly eager to learn and grow, and I am excited to contribute to their development and well-being.

Childcare
During my two weeks in childcare, I will be working in daycare centres and kindergartens that serve as vital support for local families. Many of these centres are underfunded and understaffed: my role will include:
- Assisting with teaching and educational activities
- Caring for and nurturing children
- Organizing and playing games
- Helping with feeding and mealtime routines
- Engaging in meaningful interactions to support the children's development

Teaching
For one week, I will volunteer in English-medium or government schools with classes of 30 to 50 students. Here, I will:
- Assist local teachers and provide focused teaching
- Lead classrooms in various subjects, including English, Math, Science, Geography, History, Art, and Physical Education
- Encourage students to pursue further education and build better futures

If you are able to help fund my volunteer mission I would be most grateful. Any donation, big or small, can make an impact. Thank you for your support in helping me make a difference!
