My Travel Story

Hey there! My name is Robin Nelson and I'm currently a junior at the University of Utah. I'm pursuing a BS in math with a statistics emphasis, as well as a minor in psychology. Last summer I had an amazing opportunity that gave me direction regarding what type of career I want in my future.

I applied and was accepted as a DAAD Rise Germany intern abroad, and moved to Germany for 3 months. This opportunity thrust me out of my comfort zone. At the time, I had never lived more than 30 minutes away from family, so this was an immensely large step into "real" adulthood for me. A large step that I now consider the best decision and experience I have ever had in my life thus far. I made incredible friends, gained valuable professional experience, and have wonderful memories to last me a lifetime.

This internship gave me career experience that has truly helped me decide what type of work I want to do once I graduate. At the end of my internship, neither myself, my mentor, nor my friends wanted me to leave Jena.

This brings me to my campaign here. I want to return to Jena this summer to continue to learn about myself, what I like, and what I want to do after college, and strive for a healthier mindset overall. I will also be continuing to learn German. 

Last summer, I was lucky enough that my internship program paid for nearly all of my expenses for traveling and living in Germany. However, this funding is only a one-time reward. I have a place to live with my previous roommates and a plan for how I will be spending my time there. The only piece left is being able to finance this continuation of my self-growth and educational journey. I would deeply appreciate your support in this!

  • Funding Progress!

    Hi everyone! Thank you all so much for your generous donations. I have also had donors send their donations through venmo, so my total count as of today is $1550. So I am about 30% of the way to my goal! That is great progress and I appreciate everyone's help.
