My Travel Story

Hello everyone! As of a couple weeks ago, I have been accepted into the LSU Teaching Experience in Chile Program! Specifically, this is a cultural exchange where I will complete a 75 hour internship under a psychologist and obtain class credit. As anybody who is passionate about their future goals, I don't want to be limited by a classroom or the environment immediately surrounding me. Instead, I am an avid believer in expanding and growing beyond the borders of my comfort zone. Through this program, I will have the opportunity to look at mental health through a multicultural lens, as well as receive hands-on experience with an exceptional population of children.

Currently, I am 24 year old female from New Orleans who is working on acquiring a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at LSU. Anyone that knows me is aware of my passion for traveling and mental health, so this trip is especially exciting for me! Also, anyone who knows about the mental health field, it is extremely hard to get hands-on experience before entering the workforce since it is such a confidential industry. Therefore, this experience is invaluable to my professional as well as personal growth.

Unfortunately, the program does have a price value and it is pretty steep for a graduate student. It is also too late at this point to get financial help from the university (Believe me, I checked). That being said, any donation of any value is greatly appreciated to help with the cost of this trip. Fortunately, I am only responsible for the flight and any day to day expenses. The flight alone is $950 and I will be in Chile for 3 weeks. Therefore, I suspect the entire trip will cost me around $1300.
