My Travel Story

by: Elisa Lloyd Start Date: May 3, 2022 - End Date: Nov 2, 2022
I am a single mum and would like to go with my two children to volunteer on a wildlife conservation programme in Costa Rica.
We will be helping to conserve the turtles there, by helping in the hatchery and monitoring the nests. Turtles are under threat worldwide as they need appropriate places to nest and are affected by light pollution as they use moonlight in their natural habitat.

We will also be helping in the butterfly garden and on outreach programmes with education, as well as wildlife monitoring in the area.
The reason for choosing this is the hope that the experience will be educational for us and especially for my children on their path towards protecting the planet. We are already a life long nature loving and protecting family of nature .
I chose Costa Rica because of its amazing diversity and to see the rainforest and experience the affects of the threats it faces.
I feel that a volunteer placement is more meaningful to me than a standard trip due to actually being able to experience the real side of a country.
Conserving nature has always been our priority and to get to do this together in a rainforest would be very special for us.
