My Travel Story

by: Nora Wafa Start Date: Jan 3, 2023 - End Date: Feb 1, 2023
I am a 27-year-old Hungarian professional who was born and raised in Hungary, Europe. I will be participating in a wildlife conservation volunteering project from 6 February, in Kruger National Park, South Africa, where my main focus will be on contributing to the reserve's and its wildlife's long-term sustainability.

The main reasons why I would love to get involved in the project are to create real value, and contribute to a global cause.

I am working full-time to cover the costs of the trip, but the total cost is more than I can earn on my own, that is why I am asking for your help.

Below I am explaining what exactly I will be doing during the 6-week-long volunteering opportunity, so you can fully understand the concept of it.

As a Wildlife Conservation volunteer, I will be involved in a variety of conservation work while being immersed in life on the reserve to ensure animals and their habitats are protected and cared for. I will be contributing to conservation efforts and wildlife protection, and actively trying to add to its long-term sustainability and success.

I will first complete an introductory period where I will learn more about reserve management practices, basic bush ecology training and about how my volunteer contribution is making a difference to the ongoing work on the reserve. On the reserve I will be involved in game drives and assisting with long-term biodiversity surveys, vegetation sampling, camera trapping, habitat assessments, monitoring of rare and endangered species, location and mapping of injured animals by vehicle patrols, and assisting with bush and pest plant clearing. I will also take part in vulture nest monitoring, road maintenance and erosion control measures, fence line patrols, disaster management – preparing for and helping the reserve recover from drought, flooding, storms and wildfires, and any other tasks that may arise including manual labor and general chores.

I hope you find it exciting and that you will be able to contribute to its success. Everey little counts. :)
Thank you very much in advance.
