My Travel Story

by: Colchester United Football in the Community Start Date: Aug 24, 2016 - End Date: May 23, 2017

As a group of volunteers from Colchester United Football in the Community we are embarking on their first trip with African Adventures to Kenya in March/April 2017 to volunteer at school projects within a deprived community in Nakuru, where children are given the opportunity of a free education and daily meal. After months of planning alongside African Adventures and with 11 very keen volunteers from the Colchester area, we will be departing for Kenya on Friday 31st March 2017 for an incredibly exciting 10-night trip!

When we arrive in Nakuru, this will be when the real work starts, we will participate in various volunteer roles from providing teaching support and building facilities to sports coaching. As a group, we will face a number of different challenges to help support the local community, which African Adventures have been working with successfully for over 7 years.

As a group, between now and our fast-approaching departure date, we aim to raise a significant amount of money with help from our supporters. Your generous donations will not only go towards our trip costs but will also contribute to purchasing building materials and resources that we will need to complete our project work whilst we are in Kenya.

You can keep up with our fundraising efforts via various social media channels – Follow us on Twitter @ColU_FITC? You can also visit our website to keep an eye out for any upcoming fundraising events.

Some members of our group have also set up their own fundraising initiative for our African Adventures trip with the Boots2Africa campaign and are collecting unwanted/unused football boots from the UK to take out to Africa. For more information on this project please visit https://www.facebook.com/boots2africa/ or follow @Boots2Arfica on Twitter.

Any donations towards our trip are gratefully received and if you would like further information or to get involved you can contact tom.tayler@colchesterunited.net or visit www.african-adventures.co.uk.
