My Travel Story

by: Dawn Mahealani Douglas Start Date: Dec 5, 2023 - End Date: Feb 2, 2024
God has given me a heart for serving women, children, and animals.  In 2016, I traveled to Kenya on a medical mission where my job was to entertain children while their parents received medical care at various clinics.  I was working as a part-time zoo educator at the time, so I was also able to use my skills and passion for working with animals as a tour guide on safari at Amboseli National Park.  It has been my lifelong dream to work hands-on with animals abroad, specifically elephants, and God has led me to a wonderful opportunity.

In February, I will travel to Nepal to work at an elephant sanctuary on the outskirts of Chitwan National Park.  The sanctuary is home to elephants with medical needs who were deemed "worthless" by owners using them in the toursim industry for photo opportunities or rides.  Elephants and other animals are severely mistreated and put in these unnatural situations and horrible living conditions.  Volunteers at the sanctuary help with the rehabilitation of the rescued elephants and provide education to the local community as well as the world through social media.  I am passionate about the ethical treatment of animals and conservation.  I would love if you would prayerfully consider a donation of any amount toward this worthy cause.
