My Travel Story

Hello, my name is Salem and I am a 16 year old college student in the UK. For around 5 years now I have had the goal of being a teacher, it's something I have held close to my heart since I had to leave formal education for my mental health. I managed to pass all of my GCSEs and was accepted into college where I am now doing my A-levels and beginning my journey to earn the qualifications for university.

My dream is to become in English teacher in Korea, hence why I am so excited to be able to volunteer to do exactly that. Just like many others, my introduction to Korea was through K-pop. The music helped me through tough times, especially when we made the decision for me to leave school. Naturally, in wanting to teach and discovering my love for Korea as a country, I decided my plan was to teach English as a foreign language.

This trip means so much to me, I got a job and have been saving for this for around 18 months and it would do wonders for the topic I have chosen for my Non-examined assessment for my English language A-level which I am currently planning: "Investigating how the English language is taught in South Korea, how effective it is to learn English and how it is viewed both by Korean and English people."

I am very lucky to be in this position and to have so much support, especially from my mother who will be joining me in volunteering and has always done everything she could to help me. This experience would better my chances at university and hopefully be just as helpful for the children I'll be teaching.

Thank you for reading and any contributions made!
