Help Zoé Study Abroad in Brasil!
My Travel Story
I am a recent graduate from Howard University. I majored in Africana Studies and was (and still am) extremely active in my community, especially through volunteerism. I managed our community garden for over two years during my undergraduate experience. That experience alone taught me so much about the complexities of community, which I believe will help me immensely for my volunteer trip in Brasil. I also chose Portuguese as my official language at Howard! That decision catapulted me into the realm of Afro-Brazilian cultural experiences and deeper into the communicative advantages of Portuguese.
Before I begin my doctoral program in Ethnomusicology at UCLA in the fall, I aim to give back to a region I particularly am drawn to and admire - Brasil! My field, Ethnomusicology, primarily deals with conducting critical music ethnographies. Therefore, I imagine immersing myself in Brazilian culture and communities would only enhance and provide a strong foundation for my doctoral pursuits.
Anything helps! Muito Obrigada!
