There is a strong connection between Crime and Poverty that the government is aware of, but for some reason, are not taking serious. It is a known fact that there is high rate where poverty is rampant.  I hope to become a criminologist just because I want to make a difference. I am currently studying for my masters degree in Public Administration, with a concentration in Criminal Justice . I choose to study public administration so that I can have a voice for the less priviledged at the highest level (government). They need a voice and lot of support. The Government needs  to understand that they all dont want to be criminals, they just dont see a way out.
Getting the opportunity to work with less proviledged with help me in my fight to prevent crime at an early age. I am originally from Nigeria where crime is at the highest. This is part of the reason why i have made being a criminologist my main purpose in life. I have spoken with lots of underpriviledged people and they strongly believe crime is the way out because the government is not bothered about them and wont go th extra miles for them.
New theories ( Sociological Positivism) have researched and found out that societal factors have caused people to resort to crime. The societal factor referred to in this instance is 'poverty'. Criminals believe they have no option and that to survive poverty, the only option is to reort to stealing or even more dangerous activites.
Social disorganization theory is another study that has proven that societies with economic deprivation have high crime rates. This kind of societies ususally have high population, which  makes it difficult for the govrnment to control it , thereby aiding crime in the area.  So many more theories over the years have said basically the same thing which just means that the government should tackle the problem from the beginning (on the street) , rather than wait till it becomes a problem (full blown criminals).
Developing countries like Colombia , Costa rica, Haiti have a growing population, and of course an increasing crime rate , which can be swiftly attacked once the govcernment can recognise the link between the high poverty rate and high crime rate to reduce both.
I hope to make a difference in this field especially because I truly believe that most of the problems of this world is majorly due to crime, and I want to do my part in making the world a better place. But even I cant do it alone which why i need everybodys help. Nio amount is too small in us making the world a better place.
Thank you for reading and I hope i didnt bore you too much (haha)
