My Travel Story

Hi! My name is Vidhi, and I am beyond excited to spend my 25th birthday in Kenya! As a young kid, I spent most evenings eating dinner if not complaining about it, with my grandparents in front of our bulky TV . We switched from random news segments to BBC/PBS documentaries. Most of them were centered around poverty in other countries and a few that really stuck with me involved the rural parts of Africa.

Before my grandparents passed, they made sure to instill a sense of gratitude in me. Along with my birthday, I am spending my grandpa's 1st death anniversary in Africa. I want to start off volunteering in Kenya and immerse myself in the reality of how some people live day to day so I can continue staying grounded and appreciative of everyone and everything in my life.

I am traveling to Kenya to volunteer at local orphanages/childcare centers, and to take a trip to visit the Maasai people, to become aquainted with their culture. Working some extra hours will help me pay for my travel expenses so I'd like to raise money to purchase supplies (everyday things that we may take for granted) for the children I take care of as well as the Maasai people. This includes:
  • Toiletries 
  • Clothes
  • Shoes
  • Books
  • Writing utensils 
  • Education fees
If there's anything I've learned throughout the short 24 years I've lived, it's that there is more to life than my 9-5 job and happy hours. I am starting off in Kenya and hope to visit every corner of the world and leave a mark. 

I'll be going to Kenya solo but hope to inspire my peers to accompany me in my future trips. Thanks for taking the time to read & your support!!
