My Travel Story

Hello! My name is Ishmail, and I'm a certified cultural practitioner. I love filmmaking, traveling, story telling, and most importantly diving in and exploring different cultures.It has been a goal of mine to explore the world and learn about the different cultures, tribes and ways of life to expand my knowledge of those who reside outside of the Caribbean. To fully immerse myself in those cultures to learn, grow and to share my experiences with others.


I am presently fundraising for a ten-week volunteer internship in Guyana, South America. I will be embarking on this volunteer internship with the fantastic organization Fronteering (fronteering.com) This organization provides volunteers from around the world the opportunity to work with local Amerindian communities in the Amazon rainforest. While I am volunteering, I will be able to learn about their culture while sharing experiences throughout this journey. I will be collaborating closely with the local Amerindian communities to assist in the establishment of a sustainable eco-friendly infrastructure within their community through construction, maintenance and wildlife study. If the rainforest is not given a sustainable value local people will be forced to rely on logging, mining and other damaging trades. It is crucial that an eco-friendly infrastructure is created so that local Amerindian communities and the wildlife are not lost. This opportunity allows me to assist local Amerindian people build that eco-friendly infrastructure.


I am extremely excited and enthusiastic about this volunteer internship as it will be my first time volunteering where I am exposed to a new Indigenous culture, different languages, traditions, education, cuisine, and wildlife which is something I have always wanted to do. This journey will not only impact my life but those who I share my experience with, which will hopefully motivate and influence others to volunteer in similar experiences.
