My Travel Story

by: Anique Van der Kuil Start Date: Oct 23, 2022 - End Date: Jul 22, 2023
In July/August of 2022 I fulfilled my dream of visiting the beautiful continent of Africa after I graduated college. To say I fell in love would be an understatement. Seeing the landscapes and animals was amazing, but the people did it for me. The love and passion they have for what they do, the work they put into protecting the nature and wildlife around them. They inspired me.

They inspired me so much that ever since I came home I couldn’t shake the feeling of going back. This time I wasn’t gonna sit back as a tourist, but make a change myself. I’m not one to be corny, trust me I despise romantic movies, but it feels like I’m meant to be there. As a little girl I always wanted to be a vet, so I guess it’s always been part of me.

I found a volunteer program on African Impact that combines photography with conservation work. Things like wildlife counts, taking photos for animal identification and removing poacher traps will be part of the daily life. Unfortunately, but understandable, it’s not free. Flights, accommodation and meals are some things that just need to be paid for. So this is where I need your help.

Instead of donating to this page you can also order one of my photography prints that I made in Africa. You’ll help me towards making a change and have something to put on your wall: https://capturedbyanique.picfair.com

Help me make a change, it’ll be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Anique

  • The Program

    The Program
Guided and tutored by a professional photographer, gain practical experience in wildlife photography while contributing to the conservation of South Africa’s wildlife. Using your new skills, you will support NGO’s and help raise awareness of environmental and conservation issues in the Greater Kruger Area.

The photography program is a 4 – 12 week placement (with optional extension) which begins with an intensive induction from our on-site professional photographer. Under guidance and in the impressive setting of the Greater Kruger Region in South Africa, photographers have the opportunity to enhance their photographic skills, encounter some of Africa’s most iconic wildlife and most importantly, contribute to on-going research, community and environmental initiatives.
