My Travel Story

My name is Yeassin Salim. I am currently a student residing in Bangladesh. Before that, I grew up in Morocco for 10 years.

Right after my birth, my father took my mother and me to Morocco where he worked to live with him. I never saw my blood-related grandparents ever since I grew up there. But there was this elderly person who was my father's boss and the owner of the company. Whenever he used to see me, he would carry me around and give the grandfatherly love that I never had. I started calling him 'Dadu' (grandpa) as I perceived as my grandfather. As I grew up, my bond with him got deeper. I came to know that he had no one in his life, no wife, and no real company. He lived all alone. That's why, I was his desire grandchild and always was with him.

After 10 years of living with him in his company, my family decided to return to Bangladesh by the end of 2009. My family had a hard time settling here both financially and mentally. And throughout time, my family's touch with my grandfather faded away. I couldn't call or email as I was not given any electronic devices due to my family's conservative norms and restrictions. 

In the December of 2020, I tried contacting friends in Morocco and also told Dad to reach my 'Dadu'. After a few tries and searches, we were informed that he died of Alzheimer's. Like before, he had no one with him till his death. He had a hard time living alone and died alone. Knowing this, I broke down and cried. Never have I cried so much in my life. Never have I felt heavy in my heart. 

So I decided to visit Morocco and look for his grave. I want to pay respects to him and reclaim the place where he lived his last days.

 

As a student from a middle-class family, I don't have much to travel to Morocco from Bangladesh. That is why I respectfully and humbly request your favor and contribution for my wish to visit my 'Dadu' (grandfather) one last time and reclaim his small house as his last memory. 

Flight costs from Bangladesh to Morocco are expensive which are around  900$. 
Hotel-stay in Morocco for one month including food and travel will be around 3000$.
