Treasers Service Journey: Help Her Explore!
My Travel Story
My path to this moment began after university when I joined an organization working deep within Nairobi's Mathare slums. My initial role focused on developing accessible primary science experiments using locally available materials. While fulfilling, I was profoundly and permanently impacted by the sheer scale of poverty and extreme human suffering I witnessed daily. Seeing children and families struggle to survive on just one meal, or sometimes none, ignited a fire within me.
This powerful experience gave birth to the Forever Friends Initiative (FFI). My personal mission through FFI became clear: to directly support these disadvantaged children, opening academic doors and providing basic necessities to break the cycle of poverty. For years, I poured my energy and resources into this cause, eventually taking on the full support of 8 children to guide them through their schooling, from primary all the way through high school and college.
This period was challenging but incredibly rewarding, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. However, the unforeseen arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic brought immense difficulties. Many of our dedicated supporters lost their livelihoods, and tragically, some of the children we were supporting in high school and college were forced to pause or even drop out as resources dwindled. We had to quickly adapt our focus, even launching a crucial campaign just to provide basic food security for struggling families in the community during that crisis.
Despite these setbacks, I remained committed to FFI and the children. Today, I'm grateful that many of the young people we supported have navigated those challenging times and completed their education. Now, in my 30s, with years dedicated primarily to this intense local focus, I find myself reflecting on a dream I've deferred for a long time: to travel and see the world.
But this travel is not simply a vacation. The core of who I am, forged in the heart of Mathare, is rooted in service and compassion. My deepest desire is to incorporate meaningful volunteer activities into this journey, connecting with communities, sharing skills, and offering support wherever I go. I want this opportunity to see the world to be a direct continuation of my commitment to helping others, applying the lessons learned and the passion I hold for making a positive difference, now on a global stage.
Through FFI, I've also had the privilege of collaborating on impactful projects, including a vital partnership that generously funded the production of sanitary kits, successfully providing over 3000 girls with essential hygiene supplies, helping them stay in school with dignity. By supporting this FundMyTravel campaign, you are doing more than funding a personal trip. You are enabling a journey dedicated to continued kindness, learning, and global volunteerism. Your contribution will help cover the essential travel costs – flights, modest accommodation (likely volunteer or budget-friendly), local transportation, and basic living expenses – that make it possible for me to embark on this volunteer-focused exploration. It's an investment in turning years of deferred personal dreams into a reality of global service and expanded impact.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for understanding the journey that has brought me here, and for considering supporting my dream of combining my passion for helping others with the long-held desire to see the world. Your generosity means the world.
