My Travel Story

My mom enrolled me in my first dance class when I was just 2 years old. She said I was a little ball of energy and figured a dance class would help me channel that energy in a positive and healthy way. I still remember my first performance - I played the role of ‘little mouse’ in my studio’s Christmas recital. I loved everything about performing, from the hair and makeup and pretty costumes to the lights, the music, and the audience. This was just the beginning of my dance career.

Over the years, I trained longer and harder, competing in dance competitions, joining the dance team at my school, and moving to a new studio that provided mentorship opportunities. At this studio, I was able to work with choreographers from around the U.S., learning more about storytelling through contemporary and modern dance and growing to appreciate the more upbeat styles of hip hop and jazz. I enrolled in college knowing that I would continue to study dance.

Upon graduation, I plan to attend graduate school to study kinesiology, physiology, and nutrition. Eventually, I would like to open my own dance studio, teaching young dancers the techniques and the mechanics of dance. I want to teach my dancers how to be safe and take care of themselves as they pursue their dreams.

Dance Barcelona is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn new dance techniques and skills, both on and off the dance floor. This program offers me a chance to travel to Barcelona and study the artform of dance in a whole new way. While there, I hope to learn new skills that will not only help me become a better dancer, but also help me to become more career ready.

I am excited to travel to Barcelona (a city I first saw in The Cheetah Girls 2!), especially because this is my first opportunity to travel internationally. I look forward to navigating a new city, trying different types of foods, immersing myself in the diverse culture, and improving my Spanish while also learning how to become a better dance instructor and experiencing new dance techniques.

This is an amazing opportunity for me to share my love and passion for dance in a new space and I can’t wait to tell my friends and family all about my Barcelona experience. I want to make my family proud and show my little sisters that they, too, can accomplish anything they put their minds to.
