My Travel Story

Hi there!

My name is Lucas and I devote my life to surf lifesaving. I've been doing it for more than 10 years. This passion of mine has taken me to stand in a large variety of places and situations. All of which I have learnt and grown with.

Despite countless hours as both a volunteer lifesaver and professional lifeguarding, I feel the urge to step up in the field and do something to take surf lifesaving awareness abroad, to places where it is still a developing issue.

It is through this feeling that I came across ISLA (International Surf Lifesaving Association), an international volunteer association dedicated to provide training, cultural exchange and equipment donations to help develop drowning awareness and improve lifesaving structures in countries across the globe.

Their workforce relies on volunteers investing their skills, time and money to run their programs. They campaign all-year round, on 10-day programs where skills are tought to local lifeguards and equipment donated to their organisations. This might seem of little impact but it is this kind of actions that result in saving thousands of lives across time. It is now that I head up to FundMyTravel to help me get involved in one of ISLA's missions.

2019 projects include India, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Albania and Indonesia, among others yet to be announced.

Volunteers are meant to pay for their flight tickets together with a donation of around AUD 1.500 (depending on the destination)
