Studying abroad is an experience that offers a unique opportunity for personal, academic, and cultural growth. The decision to study in Germany stems from a desire for exploration, learning, and self-discovery. The experience will provide me with global knowledge, complete my requirements for my minor in Business Administration, expand my German language proficiency, and build beneficial connections.
My chosen program and location align perfectly with my academic and personal goals. I will complete the program before my third year, which is crucial considering I am an Education major. Since I will begin student teaching in my third year, I need to complete my courses for my minor before the fall semester.
Regarding professional goals, the appeal of studying in Reutlingen lies in its reputation as a hub for business and innovation. Germany, being the economic powerhouse of Europe, provides an ideal environment for immersing myself in international business management. The hands-on approach matches my learning style and will supply me with the skills necessary to thrive in a globalized business landscape. The experience and knowledge will stand as a resume booster when compared to other professional candidates. With how the world is progressing, having a global understanding is vital.
Aside from academic and professional goals, studying in Reutlingen will be personally enriching. My family is originally from Germany; my great-grandmother moved to the US from northern Germany, so visiting the region has always been a goal. I have experience dealing with new and unfamiliar cultures, and I enjoy growing from these experiences. Another aspect of my personality is that I enjoy meeting new people. I moved states and joined a sorority to build lasting relationships, so I search for these opportunities when they are available. I have chosen to study in Germany instead of other locations because of its proximity to other European countries, allowing me to explore neighboring places before and after my studies. I am learning the German language, and I know the basics using the Duolingo app. I have practiced every day for three months and made good progress. By studying abroad, I can put this to use and broaden my vocabulary.
In conclusion, my decision to study abroad in Germany is driven by a desire for personal, academic, and professional growth. The program in Reutlingen aligns with my educational goals, allowing me to strategically complete my Business Administration minor before my third year. Professionally, the opportunity to immerse myself in Germany's business and innovation hub will provide a unique edge in the job market. On a personal level, the experience holds sentimental value as I reconnect with my family's German roots. The proximity to other European countries adds excitement, allowing me to explore before and after my studies. Through this adventure, I anticipate academic and professional enrichment and a meaningful cultural journey.
