My Travel Story

Hi, my name is Jacqueline and I'm reaching out from the bottom of my heart.

My mum is 87 years old and lives alone in Dominica. She’s my world, my anchor, and the strongest woman I know. We talk every single day — not a day goes by without hearing her voice. But the truth is, we haven’t been able to hug in far too long.

We have a bond That Distance Can’t Break
In the early 2000s, my parents retired and moved abroad to enjoy their golden years in the Caribbean. But life changed forever when my beloved dad passed away in July 2017. Since then, Mum has been on her own, and although she tries to stay strong, I know how lonely it can get.

A few years ago, when she became ill, I was desperate to get to her. I didn’t have enough saved, and in the end, she had to struggle to cover the cost of my travel so I could be by her side. That moment still weighs heavy on my heart. As a daughter, I just wanted to care for her, not the other way around.

Why I'm Asking for Help
The rising cost of living and expensive airfare make visiting her regularly nearly impossible, even though I try to save every bit I can. I know many people are struggling, and it’s not easy to ask — but this is for something so close to my heart.

I’m hoping to raise enough to surprise her with a visit. Just to sit beside her, hold her hand, and laugh like we always do — not through a screen, but face to face. She has no idea I’m trying to do this, and I’d love to make it happen while she’s still well enough to enjoy it.

What Your Help Means
Your donation — big or small — would help cover:
Return airfare
Travel expenses to and from the airport
Any additional costs while I stay with her
But more than anything, your kindness would give an elderly woman the warmth of her child’s arms — and give me a chance to care for the woman who has always cared for me.

If you can’t give, I completely understand. Please consider sharing this with others — it would mean so much.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. With all my heart — thank you.
