My Travel Story

Some history can go unnoticed once people leave, what is left is the shadows where people once lived. I would like to create a project that highlights forgotten sites in New Zealand where people have had long forgotten history. This is to develop an understanding of our history, where only locals would know that these places exist. I would want to document my findings in photography and a blog/book on limited information that I may find about these places. This is to bring to life the memories that these people once lived.

The funding will go towards the costs of travel, equipment and other fees that may arise when it comes to completing the project. Other costs will go towards setting up a personal website to begin my findings on this upcoming project, then the remainder will go towards putting together a small book about my journey and findings.

I was always inspired by my late grandfather who introduced me to photography. He was someone that told me about many of his travels searching the world and I was able to see the amazing photographs he would take. He also told me stories about growing up, he was able to see a lot of changes. One story that stood out to me that he attended school in the middle of nowhere, only for it to be shut down years later and there are no traces that it ever existed. No one knew about this place and there are no results online, but I was able to see where it once stood.

I have never left my shores of my country, but in that time I have been able to explore many sites in NZ. I have always carried my camera on all my travels and my skills get better each day.

I am a current photography student, but I'd like to focus on documenting apart of my country that has been long forgotten. I'd like to present something to people that would like to learn more about the rich history of different regions and how it shaped our modern age.

  • Beginning The Early Stages Of The Project

    I'm really excited to start this project! It has been a dream of mine to publish my own website of my travels and this would be the starting place for my dreams of travelling the world.
