My Travel Story

I am headed to South Africa in April 2020 for a school program.  We will be studying past cultures, ecology, fossils, habitats, climates, apartheid, among other topics.

I enjoy travelling and learning about different cultures and habitats.  This is a great experience for me personally, academically, and professionally.  I am hoping to help others as well as learn a great deal.

I am fascinated with Africa in general, especially all the excavation sites, and want to visit them all someday.  When I saw this program, I fell in love immediately.  I hope to make an impact while enjoying my time.

However, due to unforseen circumstances, my finances are not what I would like them to be at the moment.  I am trying to cover as much as I can with scholarships and grants, but unsure when I will have notification of any approvals. This is my first time abroad for more than 2 weeks, so I am unsure what to expect and am trying to research anything and everything beforehand. Thank you to everyone that is able to help, much appreciated!

Some of our activities:
Cape Point excursion to see dassies, penguins, whales and dolphins
Khoi San community tea tasting and language session with ecology tour
West Coast National Park hiking, animal identification, Atlantic Ocean whale watching
Kayaking in Langabaan Lagoon
Examining fossils of human ancestors and other animals
Exploring African arts and crafts
Visiting fossil sites in the Cradle of Humankind
Exploring the animals of Kruger National Park and collecting data
