My Travel Story

Hello! My name is Jaime Grijalba and I'm a filmmaker, but also a film critic from Chile. I've written for diverse venues like Filmmaker Magazine, MUBI, Fandor, Twitch, among others, both in English and Spanish.

Recently I was told that I was selected for the Talents Press program that is run by the Berlinale in their Buenos Aires version. After trying to apply to government help so I could travel there (as the program only has budget for accomodation), and being rejected, I've decided to turn to you, the people of the internet.

It's soon, it's in April, and I need to attend as I think it'd be a good first step towards the professionalization of my craft as a writer and as a film viewer. I'll have classes and screenings, all of this in the context of BAFICI, the Buenos Aires film festival of Independent Cinema. And I hope that I can transmit this experience through better writing and with tips to anyone who asks for them.

This is the first time that I've been "invited" abroad, so it's, for me, an incredible situation to be in, one that I can barely believe in (because that means someone trusted me), so I really don't wanna miss it, and right now I am not being able to attend because of a severe lack of money.

    I now will receive anything extra to fund a possible longer stay, as the festival only covers my stay for five days and I'd like to stay for the longrun.

    Maybe it'll work, but I am already happy as it is right now, with all that has happened. I'm thrilled and excited.
