My Travel Story

Hello! My name is Katie Rodriquez. I am a first-year student at the University of Arizona. I am enrolled in the W.A. Franke Honors College pursuing my pre-medicine goals. Currently, I am majoring in Physiology with a double minor in Spanish and Theatre. I am a proud Latina and the first in my family to pursue a study abroad program in college.

Within the university, I work with the Athletic Training department and help treat student-athletes. I am involved in the Honors College Student Council as well as PhilanthroCats, a philanthropic student honorary. I work with the university bookstore and work as a model with them in my free time. I also volunteer weekly at the Banner University Medical Center where I help prepare meals for patients. I have always been fascinated with the idea of international travel and the opportunity to study abroad has been a dream come true.

My study abroad program is designed for first-year students enrolled in the W.A. Franke Honors College at the University of Arizona. This exclusive study abroad program will allow me to earn 6 units of honors credits while following a unique city-as-the-text curriculum. As a participant in this program, I will spend one month abroad with a cohort of my peers as we explore Spain and France.

This program is so meaningful to me because of all the work I have put towards it. I have applied to 33 scholarships and have earned $1,500 from generous donors. I have taken on a part time job as a way to earn money for my trip. I have saved up $2,000 on my own and I sell furniture and other used goods to earn money for this trip. I am continuing to work hard on my own but I would really appreciate some extra assistance. Through your generous donations, I can pay for this experience and enjoy my time studying abroad!
