My Travel Story

by: claire bradley Start Date: Nov 17, 2016 - End Date: Jan 5, 2017
SLV Global was started in 2010 when psychology graduate Lucy Nightingale went over to Srilanka with a couple of friends and voluntered with youth workers. From then the program has expanded and is now a leading volunteering opportuinity, with nearly 600 volunteers a year, designed to give psychology graduates, such as myself, hands on experiance whilst helping specific srilankan communities.

On January 16th i will be starting my 8 week placement in Sri-lanka. Whilst there i will be living in a homestay with a Host Family and between 6-20 other volunteers. In the week we will work on 5 different projects including mental health projects, youth teachings and working with people with special needs. One day a week we will be working in a psychiatric or community mental health project ( in a Psychiatric Hospital or rehabilitation centre).

Of course the work i will be doing is extremely important and hard work so on the weekends me and fellow volunteers will be off and exploring everything srilanka has to offer! I am so excited (and nervous) to head off to srilanka and to gain some life changing hands on experiance in psychology.
