Hi everyone! Throughout my time at NYU, I have had several encounters with mental health and the importance of prioritizing it and seeking help. Throughout my studies, I have learned how individuals with mental health disorders, especially racial/ethic, gender and sexual minorities have been neglected adequate care, due to inaccessability of high quality services, the stigma associated with mental health, discrimination, and the lack of awareness surrounding mental health.

According to the World Health Organization, India has one of the highest rates of depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in the world. Despite this, there is an extreme shortage of mental health workers like psychologists, psychiatrists, and doctors in India.

SLV.Global is a program where we as volunteers will delve into Indian culture and learn how ancient practices like meditation and yoga combine with modern medicine to help those with mental illnesses. I am extremely excited to further my studies of mental health and psychiatry, as well as make a difference in the community by implementing innovative strategies to promote positive mental health.

Thank you so much for any and all donations. Anything helps! :)
