My Travel Story

by: Noelle Osborn Start Date: Dec 13, 2021 - End Date: Dec 12, 2022
My name is Noelle, I'm from New York, and I'm 16 years old. I'm currently a junior in high school, a member of the NHS, and on my way to graduate top of my class in 2023. It has long been my dream to study medicine and become a doctor, evetually specializing in neuroscience.

Growing up, I watched a great deal of travel documentaries (thanks to the wonderful PBS station). It was these documentaries that instilled within me a great love and admiration for other cultures, especially that of English culture. It is that love and admiration that has fueled my desire to go to England and attend university there. I have heard from nearly everyone I know that I'm "biting off more than I can chew" and that it'd "be easier to stay put". While I am aware that it would be easier to attend a local college, or at least one within the country, this is not what I want for my life. Neither of my parents went to college and neither of them chased their dreams. Now, I know they regret it immensely, and I do not wish to end up with the same regret hanging over me. So while it will be hard work, it is more than worth it.

Growing up, the topic of money, and subsequently college has always been a delicate one. My mother is a single mother whose primary focus has always been on the present--putting food on the table, maintaining a roof over our heads, etc. Because of this, no money has been put aside for my future. I've been working since I was 14, but the money I earn is usually put into the family.

I would greatly appreciate any and all donations to my future. It is something I have wanted all my life, but unfortunately, cannot achieve without some help. If you choose to contribute to my cause, I want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart. To attend college, especially college as a first-generation student would be no small feat.
