Hello everybody,
this is Villemo (20 years old) and Matteo (25 years old). Matteo comes from a small town in Italy and Villemo from a small town in Sweden. We have happily been a couple for one year. We met when Matteo came to Gothenburg to study his master in Philosophy while Villemo had just moved to that city to study Biology.
We need your help. Matteo came to Sweden from Italy last September to visit Villemo, but because of the new corona-restrictions he has difficulty going back to Italy for Christmas and meeting his family. All the flights he tried to book have, in fact, been canceled. At the same time, Villemo would like to join Matteo on his trip to Italy. She has always had a strong desire to visit Italy, to test her abilities in Italian and to enjoy a typical Italian Christmas.
Rather than keep booking flights which are unlikely to take off and, most importantly, are bad for the environment, we came to realise that the best solution can be reaching Italy by train, travelling via Denmark (Copenaghen), Germany (Hamburg and München) and Austria (Salzburg). In Italy we will arrive to Bologna (where Matteo has a friend he hasn't met for one year) and then we will take another train to Puglia (in south of Italy, where Matteo's family live).
This solution, althought more expensive than a flight, will allow us to reach Italy by means of an environmental-friendly trip and to spend Christmas with Matteo's family. Yet, it would represent to Villemo the possibility of experiencing Italian culture, Italian Christmas and practising the Italian language. Finally, we were thinking of documenting our trip on Matteo's blog (http://www.matteoiammarrone.com): a sustainalbe trip across Europe during the 2020's pandemic.
