My Travel Story

by: Victoria Horan Start Date: Apr 13, 2018 - End Date: Aug 12, 2018
As most people know, I am obsessed with Elephants. Not only do I think they are one of the worlds most beautiful, caring animals, they also remind me of my roots (my Mum is from Thailand for those who may not know!)

I am VERY EXCITED to announce that this September/ October, myself and my friend Georgia Prowse, have been given the opportnity to volunteer at an Elephant and Wildlife Sanctuary in Phetchaburi, Thailand! Whilst getting to look after my favourite animals, I will be caring for other animals, learn more about the culture and get the opportunity to go and visit my Grandparents and Aunty after the project (whom I haven't seen for 14 years...)

Animal exploitation is evident across the globe within the tourist industry. This includes elephant camps, animals performing in degrading shows and photo animals. Gloablteer's Thailand Sanctuaries Project has worked cloesly with local rescue centres for over 15 years to provide a sanctuary for elephants and wildlife that have been rescued from illegal wildlife trade, homes, streets and tourist attractions.

During my three weeks at the Sanctuary, I will be responsible for washing the elephants, walking them to the lakes, learning about their diets/ wellbeings, collecting their food and even collecting there dung! I will also be collecting food, preparing enclosures, providing water and being educated about the other wildlife at the Sanctuary.

The thought of being able to make a difference to these elephants lives fills my heart with great joy, and I would love for you all to be a part of this journey by showing your support, and donating! All donations go towards funding my placement on the Elephant and Wildlife Sanctuary Programme, which includes supporting Globalteer's charitable objectives and partner programmes.

(Note: Your donations will not be going towards expenses for flights, visas, insurance, etc...)

I look forward to sharing my excitment about this project with you all over the next few months!
