My Travel Story

Hello, my name is Laura, and I am attending Cal State University Dominguez Hills. I am a first-generation student studying Psychology. I grew up with not much but enough to learn to appreciate the value that experiences can give. I have always dreamed of studying abroad to return with the knowledge to provide for my community. I have a little cousin whom I live with, and she's my little motivator because I see so much of myself in her. I want to be a great role model for her, my mom and my community so I can be the trailblazer for low-income communities because they are not shown those opportunities. Therefore this opportunity to study a course in Cross-cultural Psychology in Italy will open up horizons I didn't know existed, and I know it sounds cheesy. Still, I genuinely care for my community as I want to become a PSA counselor. To motivate and guide incoming students from other countries to make them feel safe and comfortable and let them know they are welcomed. So if there is a chance I can make this trip possible, I will not only be helping myself come out of my shell but show students they can too.
