My Travel Story

by: Kelsie Beikirch Start Date: Mar 19, 2024 - End Date: May 31, 2024
Picture embarking on a transformative journey that not only changes your life, but also profoundly impacts others. That was my reality in the Summer of 2018 when I traveled to Uganda, Africa for a volunteer service trip. Witnessing the vast difference in lifestyles between the Ugandan people and my own was a truly humbling experience. Being able to serve the desolate regions of Kampala and Entebbe was incredibly fulfilling and an experience I will never forget. Many years have passed since I last served, and as life quickly passes me by, I hope to dedicate more of my time volunteering and making a positive difference for those in need across the globe.

Which brings us to the present moment. This summer I plan to embark on yet another transformative journey. However, instead of returning to Africa, I'm venturing halfway across the globe to Sigatoka, Fiji, and Ubud, Bali for a 7-week period. While many envision these destinations as tourist hotspots, nestled within their beauty are remote communities struggling to get their basic needs met; access to clean water, food security, healthcare facilities, and quality education. While my work will cover a variety of these issues, my direct involvement during this service trip will be focusing on my expertise; quality education! My time spent volunteering will be educating students and their communities in the realms of health and physical education addressing the significant educational gap and health concerns these communities face.

In 2018, I had overwhelming support through the "Make the World Suck Less" shirt fundraiser that was instrumental in making my service trip a reality. It was a beautiful synergy of support, seeing all my favorite people rally behind an amazing cause. My fundraiser for this service trip is similar. It brings back the beloved message of Make the World Suck Less, but also introduces a variety of ways to embody this mantra, from fun new apparel to everyday items like stickers, coffee mugs, beanies, totes, and more! However, I know not everyone wants or needs some new swag but would still like to contribute!

There are multiple ways to help support my cause and to make the world suck less:
1. A direct donation here!

2. Buy yourself some fun new "Make the World Suck Less" swag using this link: https://make-the-world-suck-less.myspreadshop.com

3. A-mazon wishlist (I will be checking extra luggage to bring these donations with me!): https://shorturl.at/bnOW9

Your support means the world to me and to those whose lives we have the chance to touch and transform together. Whether you choose to support this mission by purchasing an item, a direct donation, sending supplies or simply by carrying the message of making the world suck less in your heart, I appreciate you more than you know.

Peace & Love - Kelsie

PS - For full transparency: I am volunteering during 4 of the 7 weeks. For each location, I am participating in a 1 week orientation program where there will not be any volunteer work being done, but rather getting to know the area, it's people, and the culture. I have also decided to extend for a week at the end of the trip solely for leisure purposes.
