I never would have imagined that becoming a teacher would lead to me becoming bankrupt.

our educational system is broken. Don't let them fool you. I have been a teacher for over 10 years teaching only in title 1 public schools and charter schools in the east and west coast.

the truth about teaching, is that you'll go broke spending money on teaching materials bc the state wont/can't send more money to your district bc of such low test scores.

the truth about teaching, is that you can't raise test scores without access to basics like paper and pencils and current textbooks.

the truth about teaching, is that there isn't money for basic resources like paper or writing utensils so during math class you have your students imagine the numbers or draw them in the carpet. This is America.

the truth about teaching you'll only go on 4 field trips in ten years because field trips are no longer a part of the budget unless you fundraise it or pay it yourself.

the truth about teaching, is that you will go financially broke trying to give your students the resources they need.

the truth about teaching, is that I've suffered three concussions, been stabbed by a makeshift shank, among other Injuries and been asked to stay each time because they didn't have/didn't want to spend the money on a substitute.

I have many more teaching truths I wish I had the time to share with you. And will end by sharing that if I can pay off my bankruptcy within the year, I can return to stability and have it discharged. I am 32 years old...Please consider donating. I can't buy a home. I can't buy a car. I can't move. I am stagnant. All because I wanted to help my students, and like a lot of twenty year olds who come from low socio economic backgrounds, didn't really understand the way the financial systems worked.

This money will be used to pay off my remaining debt in the bankruptcy, travel to somewhere new (location undecided possibly in california or the south) and purchase a home.

If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this post to raise awareness so that we can change America's educational system.
