My name is Suzanne and I LOVE all things Japan. Ever since I was a kid I was obsessed with the culture, language, food, clothes, and people. Growing up, I began studying Japanese when I was 14 years old and fell in love with the language while progressing quickly. I even went to Japan for a month and a half back when I was 20 years old to grow my language skills and explore Tokyo. I swore to myself then that I would move there one day. Then, as I got older, in pursuit of a career, relationships, and carving out a life for myself, I lost momentum and my studies and dreams regrettably fell by the wayside. I have retained an intermediate level of fluency over the years but haven’t been able to dedicate the time I want to my studies or return to Japan, so my level has stayed the same. This year though, after recently going through a big life overhaul and divorce I’ve had to rethink my life and what it is I really want out of it. Needless to say, it didn’t take much thought to decide that I need to go chase my dreams of going to Japan and finally attain fluency while getting to know the country I love and enjoy so much. After many months working on applications and researching, I was finally accepted to a language school in Tokyo and informed I will need to move in June for my first term. So now I’m going all in, selling everything I own, quitting my stable job here in the states, uprooting my entire life, and moving to Tokyo, Japan in June to go study Japanese at one of their top language schools! This means so much to me at such a rocky and transitional period in my life and especially because I don’t have any family to support me, it feels uncertain and kind of crazy but also like I am answering the call of destiny to go do what I truly am passionate about. Because I'm also a musician, I'm going to be chasing my dreams of breaking into the music industry over there and doing street performances as well, which will be on my YouTube channel linked below (feel free to follow my journey!).
I would greatly appreciate any help to be able to go explore and enjoy myself during my two-year school term, to be able to travel around Japan, taste the food, see the sights, take in the culture, and rebuild a life I love in a place that means so much to me.
