My Travel Story

by: Alaura Hopper Start Date: Oct 16, 2017 - End Date: Oct 15, 2018
I am an environmental sociology major with a minor in French and I am beyond excited to get the opportunity to study abroad in Madagascar. Ever since I was young I have had a sociological imagination that explored deep connections between people and the world we all share.i will be studying abroad for a full semester, Fall of 2018. This experience will fulfill 19 credit hours towards my graduation in Spring of 2020 from Colorado State University. The coursework will entail a Madagascar language class, Malagasy, as well as two French for natural resource science courses. I will also take a class in Biodiversity and Natural resource management as well as a research method and ethics course. For the last month of my studies I will be an internship, I plan to work with an organization that focuses on introducing recycling and sustainability to school age children. My study abroad will include a home stay for total cultural immersion as well as institutional lead excursions to national parks to study biodiversity.
I have applied for many scholarships focusing mainly on language immersion and specialized for study abroad, but I need to also pay for my plane tickets, passport/visa and luggage expenses.
