My Travel Story

Coming from a poor background myself, I have always seen how poverty has affected me in the sense that going to school was a struggle due to lack of basic human needs. I lacked food, clothing and a descent education since my parents lacked resources to help me and my siblings to enjoy our childhood. My area was infested with jiggers which hindered most of the children from continuing with their education.I overcame these challenges through help from an NGO which treated us and provided food, shoes and books which enabled me to pursue my education to the highest level. Looking back where I came from, I realized that the same problem still persists and the most affected group are women and children. Some areas of Busia county in Kenya are still infested with jiggers and most of the women are unable to take care of their children due to high levels of poverty and unnemployment. Having seen this problem and with research on how the area can be improved, I saw the need to help address social issues like poverty, illness, and inequality in this area. With a small group of 12 people, we have set out a strategy to visit the area using our own savings to buy drugs to fumigate the area to get rid of jiggers, teach women about income generating activities and introduce table banking where they can save and borrow soft loans to help them take care of their families, buy books and shoes for kids to help them go back to school.
Through this program, we hope to help create stronger communities and a happier society and also to help promote a more sustainable environment.
We aim to support causes like education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and social justice.
I believe I will feel a sense of satisfaction if I play my part in helping my community since I was also helped to raise to where i am today.
