My Travel Story

I have been lucky enough to be accepted on a mental health placement to Sri Lanka at the end of August this year. This is a very thrilling opportuinty for someone like me studying a Psychology degree, especially bevause I want to work within a different culture when I graudate. As part of this placement I will get the opportunity to work within the psychiatric facilities, experiencing how patients are treated so differently to here in the UK. I will also be aiding children with both mental and physical disabilities, to further their education and help them to gain confidence within themselves. Finally I will be teaching English to the local community, whilst also helping to write CV's and help preparation for job interviews. Sri Lanka is one of those countries that I never thought of as having issues like this, when it clearly does. This will mean a great deal to me as it will show just how much we as a Western society rely heavily on medication whereas other cultures don't. Hopefully I can incorporate some of the things I learn into my practices when I graduate. Thank you so much!
