Let's Get John to Germany!
My Travel Story
Hey there, wonderful people! Meet John, a remarkable young man with an inspiring story and a big dream. John wants to go to Germany with his high school class in the spring of 2024.
John's Passion for German Language and Culture: John is a high school Sophomore. He has a deep appreciation for learning and in particular the German language and culture. For nearly ten years, he's been learning German, and he's not just good, he's fluent! He even aced the International German Test – that's no small feat. His German tutor said this about John’s German skills when he was about ten. “You could drop him off in Bohn, Germany in the middle of the street and he’d be just fine.” John's dedication to mastering German is a testament to his constant hard work and determination.
John’s journey wasn’t easy – we lost his dad to cancer when John was just three years old. Even amid a three-and-a-half-year bout with a terminal illness, his dad emphasized the importance of an excellent education for John that included arts, music, and travel.
Here’s a Funny story I must tell you guys. Often as a very little fellow, John and his dad or mom would frequent the library. However, this day Mom was at work and Dad just couldn’t take him. I, Grandma Ronnie, stopped by and John, who was only two years old was very distraught. Not crying but with a very sad look on his usually laughing and smiling face. I cuddled him on my lap and asked him what was wrong. He unsuccessfully tried to hold back the tears and finally said “I wanna go to the li-ba-ry, the books are waiting on me”. I buried my face in his hair while I silently laughed. What two-year-old cries to go to the library and has a personal relationship with books? He has been making me laugh ever since.
John’s Mother is a two-time cancer survivor and is a strong example for John to see someone who has a strong work ethic and never gives up in the face of adversity. However, through it all his mom has spent the last twelve years making sure John was enjoying a real childhood and that he was receiving the best well-rounded education she could provide. Also, she has seen to it that he is a valuable member of a bigger village that cares about him and helps nurture lifelong relationships.
John receives a first-class education that includes music, art, language skills, and sports with physicians, therapists, coaches, trainers, mentors, and tutors always at the ready. His natural genius has allowed him to excel in every area of study. He has spent hours on Saturdays for the last eight years with his German Tutor. He has studied his math, science, and language classes in English and German. Always pushing through normal challenges, he's grown into an incredible individual, and we're reaching out to you to help him achieve something truly special.
A Heart of Gold: John isn't just book-smart; he's also got a heart of gold. He spends some of his free time volunteering at local food pantries, has mentored younger students, and enjoys involvement in community service projects. John's commitment to making the world a better place shines through in everything he does.
A Well-Rounded Achiever: But wait, there's more! John is a chess champion, a Varsity Football player, and a talented violinist in his high school orchestra. He's a gamer, too – and absolutely loves roller coasters and amusement parks. This guy knows how to live life to the fullest! While in Germany he will have an opportunity to visit, study, and enjoy the food, history, and culture.
The Dream: Now, here's where you come in. John's been given a fantastic opportunity – a chance to travel to Germany. It's a dream come true for him, a chance to immerse himself in the culture he's studied so hard. But here's the catch: traveling can be expensive, and we don't want finances to stand in the way of John's dreams. Not after all these years of dedication.
Your Chance to Make a Difference: You can be a part of John's incredible journey! Your contribution, big or small, can help send John to Germany and make his dream a reality. Imagine the impact you can have on a young man who's faced loss and adversity with courage and has dedicated himself to learning and serving others.
His village has raised a kind and thoughtful humanitarian, a scholar, and an appreciator of art and music. Hopefully, these few words have given you insight into a young man named John with a thirst for travel that I hope we can help quench.
With heartfelt gratitude, John’s Grandma Ronnie
